The New Year is off and running, literally:) I hope training is going well for everyone out there. There are some great events coming up in KC that I know a lot of you are doing. Brew to Brew is a great one on the horizon. This is a 44 mile relay/solo run that takes you from KC, MO to Lawrence, KS. The terrain changes which makes it interesting. Mostly paved roads but with mild trails and grave roads to make it interesting. This was my first real ultra. That same weekend, first weekend in April, is the Rockin K marathon and 50 miler. Paula and I will be running the 50 miler, this will be her first 50 mile ultra. She has completed the Brew to Brew twice, we were able to run it together once. I love running with her! So being able to pace her for her first 50 miler is a great date for us. Paula has run Rockin K marathon three times and for some reason loves it. It is a tough course and the weather can be extreme, snow to 80 degrees. Always windy. Not sure why she likes it, but as long as I'm with her and she's having fun that's all that matters. So to make things interesting I am planning on running Rockin K Saturday followed by Brew to Brew on Sunday. Should be fun.
This year will be a little different. I am now a veg-head and running only in Vibrams. I want to run The Keys 100 in Vibrams, this event is in May. Things are going well so far. The veg-head thing has really paid off with I feel great and my running is better than ever. The only animal protein I take in is the incredible whey protein in Isagenix shakes, that will never change. The real question is how will my feet hold up for 100 miles in my Vibrams? Also am I tough enough to deal with the terrain of Brew to Brew and Rockin K in my Vibrams? I have ran moderate trails in them but nothing like Rockin K. I watch these videos of people running on gravel barefoot and our local Barefoot Hero, BareFoot Rick, runs in the snow, on trails, pavement..... all barefoot. He is one tough mother. I'm just not there yet. It is a hard thing to admit but my feet are pussies. They get tougher everyday but it is slow going. I have been doing this for a year and a half now and still prefer running on pavement in my Vibrams. I know all things come with time. I'm a little impatient.
A group of us will be running CowTown the end of the month, a few of us will be running the 50K. The rest are running the marathon. It looks like a fun event and will be my first ultra in the Vibrams. Like I said the year is off and running. There are other runs later in the year, I will get to those later. I will give you another update very soon.
NEVER STOP RUNNING!!!
